What are the possible causes of problems such as uneven bubbles and inconsistent film thickness in bubble wrap making machines, and how can these problems be solved

In daily use, the bubble film making machine may encounter problems such as uneven bubbles and inconsistent film thickness, which may be caused by the following reasons and can be resolved accordingly:

 

  • Raw Material Problem

Differences in Resin Raw Materials: Resin raw materials from different batches or with varying qualities exhibit different properties, such as melt index and density. Mixing raw materials with different properties can lead to uneven plasticization during the extrusion process, affecting bubble formation and film thickness. For example, raw materials with a low melt index plasticize slowly, potentially causing small local bubbles and thick films, while the opposite is true for areas with high melt index raw materials.

Raw Materials Get Damp: Resin raw materials can become damp during storage and contain excessive moisture. When extruded at high temperatures, the moisture rapidly vaporizes, producing irregular gas that results in bubbles of varying sizes and affects film uniformity.

Solution: Strictly control the quality of raw materials by using resin raw materials from the same manufacturer, batch, and with stable performance. Pay attention to moisture-proofing during storage and fully dry the raw materials before use, such as by using drying equipment to remove moisture.

 

  • Improper Equipment Parameter Settings

Temperature Control: The temperature settings of extruders, molds, and other components are unreasonable. If the temperature is too high and the resin is too fluid, bubbles may break or merge during the molding process, resulting in uneven bubbles. If the temperature is too low, the resin will not be fully plasticized, making bubble formation difficult and causing unstable film thickness. For example, if the mold temperature is too low, the film surface will be rough and the bubbles will vary in size.

Pressure Regulation: Unstable or uneven extrusion pressure can alter the resin extrusion speed and flow rate. If the pressure is too high, bubbles may be flattened, causing them to become smaller. If the pressure is too low, the resin will not extrude smoothly, resulting in inconsistent film thickness.

Traction Speed: The traction speed does not match the extrusion speed. If the traction speed is too fast, the film will be stretched, making it thinner and elongating the bubbles. If the traction speed is too slow, the film will accumulate and become thicker, and the bubbles will deform due to extrusion.

Solution: Set the temperature of each component accurately according to the characteristics of the resin raw materials and production process requirements, and use temperature sensors to monitor and adjust in real time. Reasonably adjust the extrusion pressure to ensure stable pressure and install a pressure control system for automatic adjustment. Match the traction speed accurately according to the extrusion speed, fine-tune it through the speed adjustment device, and continuously observe and optimize the parameters during the production process.

  • Failure or Wear of Mechanical Parts

Mold Wear: After prolonged use, the mold's flow channel, die mouth, and other components may wear, resulting in uneven resin extrusion, inconsistent film thickness, and affecting bubble formation uniformity. For example, die mouth wear can cause the film edge thickness to differ from the middle.

Roller Problem: The surface of rollers such as pressure rollers and traction rollers may be uneven, worn, or inflexible. Uneven rollers can cause uneven force on the film as it passes, resulting in changes in film thickness. Inflexible rollers can affect the stability of the traction speed, leading to inconsistent film thickness and uneven bubbles.

Solution: Regularly check the wear of the mold, repair or replace worn parts in a timely manner. Check the surface quality and rotation of the rollers, polish and repair uneven rollers, replace rollers with severe wear or abnormal rotation, and perform good lubrication and maintenance of the rollers.

 

  • Abnormal Bubble Forming Device

Air Nozzle Blockage or Damage: The air nozzle of the bubble film making machine is responsible for injecting air into the film to form bubbles. If the nozzle is clogged, the amount of air injected will be inconsistent, resulting in uneven bubble size. If the nozzle is damaged, air may leak or change the injection direction, affecting bubble formation.

Unstable Air Pressure: Unstable air pressure in the air supply system can cause fluctuations in the amount of air injected into the film, resulting in bubbles of varying sizes.

Solution: Clean the nozzle regularly to prevent impurities from clogging it, check if the nozzle is damaged, and replace it in a timely manner. Install an air pressure stabilization device, such as a pressure regulating valve, to ensure the stability of the air pressure in the air supply system and monitor air pressure changes in real time.
